After leaving the military in 1972, and attending Louisiana State University until 1975, Dick Brown began his career in the agency business and worked his way to the position of general manager of a major ship agency, while building his strong foundation with the marine institutions along the Mississippi River. In 1980, he took his expertise in ship agency services, his network of connections, and his close relationships with the people that drive the engine of shipping on the River, and used them to grow his own company, Tricon Steamship Agency, Inc. He did this by providing the best possible service with a willingness to go the extra mile for the customer; more than 35 years later, we are still doing just that.

Dick makes sure that all his agents dedicate themselves fully to the needs of their customers. This includes ensuring accurate time keeping and notifying them of major events that occur on the Mississippi River which may impact future shipments, or even changes in U.S. Customs, Coast Guard or other government regulations. As he always says, “Any agent can do it when things are going right. You want us when things get tricky.”
